Nigel From Slough

Versatile four-part function band based in Cambridge, with consistently good reviews.

Nigel from Slough: Text

None of us are called Nigel, nor did we meet in Slough

But together, we are Nigel from Slough

And we're bound to get your guests on their feet

Nigel from Slough is a 4-part rock and pop band that is becoming increasingly popular in the University of Cambridge. Miles, our lead vocal and guitarist, has many years of solo and band experience, headlining SSJE's Acoustic Stage in 2017. Ethan drums extensively for the Cambridge Live Music and musical theatre scene. T our bassist brings Fink Ployd and the Soul Revue to life; while Chris is an experienced keyboardist and pianist. Together we make a lot of music together and are very good at responding to live requests.

We kind of knew each other.

Temi played with Ethan in a Gospel Band, Ethan broke Miles' amp, Miles introduced Chris to Varsity Pooh Sticks, Chris subbed in for Temi's soul band, Temi was supervised by Miles, Miles was fellow at Ethan's college, and Ethan met Chris on a piano at Jesus May Ball.

We first came together in November 2018.

Fast forward a few months, we improvised our way through a lot of songs, named the band after a guy Miles met at a pub in Slough, and played a load of fun gigs for the official opening of the Newnham Iris Bar, headlined the Cambridge ABACUS x London APS London Boat Party, opened Magdalene May Ball and closed Trinity Hall June Event. We have played across Robinson, Jesus, Girton, Homerton, Clare, the Union and more. We always get our guests up on their feet and our relaxed, comedic approach keeps them engaged all the time.

Nigel From Slough played an hour and a half at our Freshers Week Finale event this year, and made for the best performance our ents team has been lucky enough to present. They were super easy, hassle-free and professional to work with - expectations were set high, doubled at first hearing their sound check, and blown away on the night. They performed a great range of music and styles, sounded fantastic, played and even improvised exactly what the audience wanted to hear. We’d have them back at the slightest opportunity!

We booked Nigel from Slough to play at the Trinity Hall June Event in 2019 and thought they were great! They played very fun and popular songs that everyone in the crowd knew and could sing along to. Ideal for a May Ball or June Event. I especially liked how they engaged and interacted with the crowd, asking questions and taking song requests. In terms of communication during the booking process I found that it was very easy to organise timings with the band as they were very flexible with both performance times and sound checks on the day. All went very smoothly and I would definitely book them again!

Chris and his band are truly amazing and professional performers. The song choices were well thought out for the theme, setting the mood from the very start and getting guests up and dancing. They were also very accommodating to our specific needs due to restrictions on equipment on the boat, and communicated with us efficiently to work out a solution since the start. Still, they managed to exceed our expectations in every way. Undoubtedly a highlight of our party.

S.H. Lee, ABACUS Cambridge x Oxford APS Joint Boat Party 2019

We had Nigel from Slough as the opening act on our Main Stage, and they delivered so much more than we expected. To add to the excellent skill, sound quality and range of genres, the sense of cheekiness in their interaction with the dancefloor really adds a real splash of life. We would be so happy to have them back again.

P, Magdalene May Ball 2019
